Container garages for driverless buses in Aalborg

In the beginning of 2019, as a pilot project, driverless buses will be added to the area around Astrupstien as part of a major urban development project in Aalborg East. The buses are 100% electric and will be parked and charged in a garage attached to the route.

DC-Supply A/S has delivered the garages, which are built in containers with special dimensions of 10 x 6 meters, with 3.6 meters in height. The bus garage has three doors, and there are charging stations installed so that the buses can be parked in the garage at night and recharge for the next day’s drive.

The bus garages are now established and set next to the Trekanten Library and Cultural Center. The garages are decorated by artists from Street Station Urban Art Studio in Aalborg – an atelier for young local artists. The artworks have given the garages a really nice expression, and really brightens up the the area – a good choice, instead of just setting up some otherwise rather dull gray boxes.

When the buses come into operation, it will be on an approx. 2 km long route with 10 stops. Each bus has space for 11 passengers, and the plan is that the buses run at 15-minute intervals. It is free to use the bus.
