Cost-effective solution for mobile helicopter hangars

When the Danish Air Force goes out on assignments around the world, they may be missing some necessary facilities and equipment. During the war in Afghanistan, there was a shortage of several basic facilities such as hangars and associated floors. They had to find a solution. They could build the necessary facilities but at a high cost. The military base was meant to be a temporary structure, so the solution also had to be mobile and flexible while still being affordable.

When the Danish Fennec helicopters are not in the air in Afghanistan, they are parked in mobile hangars supplied by DC-Supply A/S – Danish Container Supply. The hangar itself is based on a tent solution.

The floor is a so-called Rola-Trac, which can be assembled, similar to how one builds with LEGO blocks. Each floor element measures approximately 50 x 100 cm, and is equipped with a “spring and splice” system, so it is quick and simple to click the floor elements together without the use of tools. The floor is extremely robust and easy to clean.
